Yosemite, April 13, 2002

The weekend after returning from Chile, I ignored the piles of stuff I had to make up and went to Yosemite for a beautiful sunny day. The weather was spectacular. Charles and I climbed "Commitment," a three-pitcher in the Five Open Books area. After finishing that, we traversed over to "Selaginella" for four more pitches. There were two very slow parties ahead of us, however, and after investing several hours waiting we realized we weren't getting anywhere and rappelled off the first pitch. We headed over to the Swan Slabs. Later, we found out that after we left the base of Selaginella three people were injured when a bowling ball-sized rock was disloged by a leader.

This was the first time since I was a little kid that I've seen the huge seasonal waterfalls of Yosemite. I was gawking like a tourist, it was so beautiful. Here is Yosemite Falls from the approach to the Five Open Books area.

From the top of "Commitment," a sandy traverse leads to the base of "Selaginella," where we waiting about an hour and a half before deciding to leave. I killed time by taking pictures of Half Dome.

Although I left on Sunday night to go home and get caught up with school and work, Charles stayed until Monday, along with Rod, Viv, Ed, Andrew, and Julian. Apparently the weather turned bad and it even snowed on Monday! Charles' pictures from the rest of the weekend are here.
