Yosemite, August 7-8, 2001 (Nutcracker and Snake Dike)

My first climbing trip to Yosemite was highly memorable---Brian and I climbed two classics, Nutcracker on the Manure Pile Buttress and Snake Dike on Half Dome. We woke up early in the morning for Snake Dike, and the day progressed in (roughly) four hour blocks: four hours for the approach, four hours to climb, four hours to descend. The day featured the typical summer storm clouds, and a thunderstorm off in the distance over Tuolumne provided us with an air of nervousness and urgency. As we reached the summit, though, the storm was securely far away and we were treated to a nearly empty summit.
