Misc. Fall 2010

In the late summer and early fall of 2010, I was climbing comfortably again on my healing left arm, and I enjoyed the relief of noninjury for a blissful but alas, all-too-short time. I was excited to be climbing again and I got back into it a little too quickly, and I was too cautious with my left arm, so I ended up with an overuse injury of the right arm. Here are some pics from trips to the Enchanted Tower, the Dead Cholla Wall near Taos, and Lover's Leap. After a few painful pitches at the Leap while we were in the Tahoe area for Ed and Viv's wedding, I took a month off of climbing to rest the arms.

As a followup to my page about this summer's garden, here are a few more pics from the fall.

The green tomatoes continued to ripen.

We were told to put them in the sun to hasten the ripening. It was a race between the ripening and the spoiling of the tomato.

Some of the varieties were more likely to win this race than others. The cherry tomatoes did well. The heirloom tomatoes sometimes spoiled before ripening, especially the varieties that crack across the top.

In any case, we were still enjoying organic garden tomatoes as late as early December, when the last of the green tomatoes ripened. (They were picked October 24.)

The kumquat tree taking in some sunshine before coming back inside for the evening.

We planted some kale, but it was probably too late in the season to survive.
