Flagstaff and Sedona, January 2-21, 2002

I spent the latter part of winter break at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, working with the Deep Ecliptic Survey on their search for Kuiper Belt Objects. I had a great time working, climbing, and doing other things, such as kayaking on the Verde River. I especially enjoyed the climbing around Sedona, which is on questionable rock but is really quite beautiful.

For my first weekend at Lowell, I went to Sedona and climbed two great routes with Seth Dyer. On Saturday we did Coyote Tower, a five pitch route up the slightly detached pinnacle on the very far right of the formation behind me.

On Sunday we climbed "Four Flying Apaches" (aka "Sedona Scenic Cruise"), a gorgeous route on the formation behind Seth that was recently put up by John Burcham.
