Addie S. Hut, Red Mountain Pass, CO - March 24-27, 2007

A motley group of 12 people from Santa Fe, Boulder, and Seattle converged on the Addie S. ski hut for some late-March spring skiing. Aaron, Noah, Val, Elliott, Cory, Beckie, Thorsten, Deb, Haj, Sasha, Andy, and I enjoyed skiing on both sides of Red Mountain Pass. The hut was downright luxurious, with running water and electricity! Here are mine and Aaron's pictures from the trip. Also, check out Cory's pictures and Haj's pictures.

On both Sunday and Monday, the twelve of us started hiking out together and then broke into smaller groups depending on what kinds of slopes people wanted to ski. Here's a line of five on the way out towards McMillan.

Haj, Elliott, and Noah. Everyone snapped a picture of these three cool guys as they scoped their lines.

Here's Aaron's version.

Noah starting off down a run with his skis looking a little funny. He didn't biff, so it must have all worked out.

Aaron on the same slope.

Thorsten starts off.

Beckie, Val, Sasha, Deb, and I headed over to some mellow slopes with sweet, sweet snow. Here's Sasha.

Five guys lined up for their second run of the day, with one of them starting off down the slope.

The next day, the twelve of us set out together again, this time on the other side of the road from the hut. Here's Deb during a snack break.

Aaron, Beckie, Haj, Andy, Cory.

Almost the whole gang. Only Haj and I are missing from this picture. Aaron looks a little suspicious with that big piece of snow.

The toe-holder of Elliott's G3 binding came loose on the way up. Andy, Elliott, and Aaron assess the situation.

Aaron fixed it up with some bailing wire.

Two people heading over to ski the backside of that saddle. I didn't go with them---Cory, Beckie, Andy, and I headed down for another sweet little run off the first slope we'd skied.

Aaron went with the others to the saddle. Here's Haj, Thorsten, and Elliott. Photo (and the next 2): Aaron.

Someone (Noah?) on those guys' ski out through Porphyry Basin.

Haj and others. This looks like more fun than the way the other four of us went down...

A sluff triggered by Cory on our ski out. It was getting late in the afternoon and the snow was becoming shiftier.

The other three of us picked a gully to come down instead. This part was fun. However, we found ourselves cliffed out soon after this, with the only other option a sketchy, sluffing chute, which Cory skied and then advised us to avoid. We took off our skis and booted our way down a terraced cliff along the easiest path we could find.

Back at the hut, Val, Sasha, Deb, and Cory enjoying the sun.
